The iPod Accessory Protocol (also known as Apple Accessory protocol) is used for communication between iPods/iPhone and accessories such as docking stations and car adaptors. It is primarily used for play control of iPod/iPhone and for transferring meta data such as track info and album art. With the later versions of the protocol, it is also possible for the iPhone accessories to communicate with applications running on the iPhone OS.
